SELF-ADHERING / COHESIVE WRAP FAQs...

What is Cohesive Tape?
Cohesive tape, often referred to as "self-adhesive tape" or "non-stick tape," is a type of bandage material that adheres only to itself, rather than sticking to the skin or hair. It is commonly made of a stretchable material, like nylon or cotton, coated with a latex-based or synthetic adhesive. This type of tape provides secure, flexible support without causing irritation or leaving sticky residue.

What is Cohesive Tape Used For?
Cohesive tape is used in a variety of applications, including:
 • Sports injuries: It helps stabilize joints, tendons, and muscles without restricting movement.
 • First aid: It’s used for securing bandages or dressings on wounds or injuries.
 • Compression bandaging: Helps reduce swelling or bruising, particularly in the case of sprains or strains.
 • Animal care: Used to wrap and protect animal injuries.
 • Medical purposes: Often used in the medical field for securing dressings, wound care, or IVs.

Is Self-Adhesive Wrap Waterproof?
Most cohesive tapes, while water-resistant to some degree, are not completely waterproof. They can handle some moisture (like rain or sweat), but prolonged exposure to water, such as swimming or submerging the wrap in water, could cause it to lose its adhesion or deteriorate. Some brands offer more water-resistant versions, but if you need full waterproof protection, other materials, such as medical waterproof bandages, may be more appropriate.

Can You Reuse Self-Adhesive Sport Wrap?
Cohesive or self-adhesive sport wraps are generally not reusable. Once the tape has been removed, it tends to lose its stickiness, and reapplying it usually won't provide the same level of adhesion. For hygiene and effectiveness, it's best to use fresh wraps each time. Reusing them might also cause irritation or discomfort due to the accumulation of dirt or sweat.

Cohesive Tape vs Athletic Tape
 • Cohesive Tape: As mentioned, it sticks only to itself and is often used for support, compression, and securing dressings without sticking to skin or hair. It is more flexible and breathable, which makes it ideal for long-duration wear.
 • Athletic Tape: Typically sticks to the skin and is often used for joint support, preventing injury, or taping up a sprain. It is less flexible than cohesive tape and may cause discomfort or irritation if worn for extended periods. It is also commonly used in more rigid applications, like preventing ankle sprains or supporting knees during athletic activities.

Cohesive vs Adhesive Wrap
 • Cohesive Wrap: Sticks only to itself, making it ideal for situations where you want to avoid sticky residue on the skin or hair. It is often more flexible, breathable, and comfortable over long periods of use. However, its stickiness diminishes over time and it's generally less durable than adhesive tapes for certain uses.
 • Adhesive Wrap: Adhesive wraps stick directly to the skin or the surface of a wound, providing a more secure and often longer-lasting hold. However, they may be more uncomfortable to remove and might cause skin irritation or leave sticky residue. They’re commonly used when a firmer, longer-lasting hold is needed, like securing dressings or providing support.

What is the Difference Between Coban, CoFlex, and Cohere Wrap?
Coban, CoFlex, and Cohere are all brand names for types of cohesive bandages, but they may vary slightly in composition, features, or intended use.
 • Coban: A commonly used cohesive bandage made by 3M. It is stretchable and sticks to itself without adhesive, making it ideal for wrapping and securing dressings or providing compression. It's particularly popular in both human and veterinary applications.
 • CoFlex: A similar product to Coban, made by Andover Healthcare. CoFlex is designed for use in medical and veterinary settings for compression and wound care. It is available in different strengths and thicknesses, depending on the required application.
 • Cohere Wrap: Cohere Self-Adhering Wrap manufactured by HART Health, often compared with Coban and CoFlex. Cohere wraps are used similarly to secure dressings or provide support, but they may differ in terms of elasticity, comfort, and color variety. Cohere wraps are designed to be more lightweight for patients with sensitive skin and are latex-free unlike comparable products.

In general, the main differences between these products often come down to the specific manufacturing company, slight variations in elasticity, and product availability in different regions. All of them are designed to be used in a self-adherent manner, with no need for additional adhesive or fasteners.
